Introduction to the Characteristics of Electric Radiant Tubes

An electric radiant tube is a device in which the electric heating element is enclosed within a protective sheath. Upon energization and heating, heat is radiated indirectly through the sheath to the furnace lining and the workpiece being heated.

Radiant tube heating is suitable for furnaces with protective atmospheres or corrosive atmospheres, such as continuous furnaces, rotary furnaces, pit-type furnaces, and others.

A radiant tube in which a single resistance wire is bent into a U-shape and then connected in series or parallel with others is called a corrugated resistance wire radiant tube. In this type of assembly, due to the reduced shielding effect of the resistance wire, a long service life can be ensured even under relatively high surface loads inside the tube.

To prevent contact between fuel combustion products and the workpiece, or to avoid corrosion of the electric heating element by furnace gases, the process of fuel combustion or electrical energy conversion is carried out inside a heat-resistant steel tube, allowing heat to radiate to the workpiece through the tube wall. This device is called a radiant tube.

Characteristics of Radiant Tubes:

(1) Ensures controllability of the furnace atmosphere;

(2) Convenient temperature control, installation, and maintenance, and easy sealing;

(3) Since there is no muffle inside the furnace, the furnace chamber volume is increased, thereby improving production capacity;

(4) High heating capacity and high efficiency;

(5) Saves heat-resistant steel materials.
